OUR LEADERSHIP AND STAFF
Here to Guide You
Pastor
Charlo D. Burrell Sr.
A veteran of the addictions field, Charlo began his career at Fairbanks as a Chemical Dependency Technician in
1998. His role within this position involved monitoring client status during medical detoxification to ensure patient
stability. Charlo was active in facilitating educational recovery groups. His success and drive within this role was
recognized in 2000 when he was promoted to Addiction Counselor within the inpatient unit at Fairbanks. As an
inpatient counselor, Charlo worked closely with patients going through medical detoxification along with their
families. Quickly recognized for his dependability and his ability to adapt to multiple environments, Charlo was
used within multiple clinical settings, including admissions, outpatient, and partial hospitalization, along with
working on both the men and women’s unit. Charlo’s primary role as an inpatient counselor involved facilitating
patient assessments, group therapy, conducting family educational groups, treatment planning, case management,
and discharge planning. Charlo is licensed as an addiction counselor and was one of the first individuals in the state
certified as a Recovery Coach through the Indiana Counselors Association on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
In addition to his work at Fairbanks, Charlo accepted his call to preach the Gospel in 2000 and was ordained as an
Outreach Minister in 2007 and excelled as an associate minister at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist church. His role as a
minister led him to multiple community-based volunteer opportunities. His professional experience has made him
uniquely qualified to work with individuals struggling to deal with situations such as addiction, incarceration, and
family discord. Over the years, Charlo has also been a volunteer at Pendleton Correctional Facility and
Wheeler/Lighthouse Mission for over 16 years. Charlo uses his spiritual, clinical, and experiential background to
help individuals turn their lives around in order to fully realize the potential that their lives can be. Within Indiana,
Charlo is considered to be one of the most recognized addiction professionals in the field, working with thousands
of individuals throughout his career. In January 2021 Rev Charlo D. Burrell Sr. accepted the call to Pastor Greater
Saint James MBC and was installed on March 28, 2021. Pastor Burrell considers this the greatest call of his life. So
on February 3, 2023 after 24 years, 6 months and 10 days Pastor Charlo D Burrell Sr. made the decision to retire
from Fairbanks so that he could focus one hundred percent on leading Greater Saint James to higher heights.
